Elderly Care

Reading the news recently and watching television, I got really interested in elderly care. Have you also heard all those stories and criticism about elderly care recently? I just want to summarize my impressions and I am really interested in comments and discussions.

In my opinion, elderly people are cared about way to less nowadays. For me it feels that all those institutions and elderly homes are just concerned about the health of the elderly, but isn’t there more to life than just being healthy?

Of course, taking care about the health of the elderly is definitely a big part of the work done in an elderly home. Employees there should be educated in medical training in order to be able to help them in all situations, even medical emergencies. Giving them their medicine and treating their health problems is an important part in an elderly home. But for me, that is not enough.

One must think about the fact that old people are not always ‘sick’. They are old, but that cannot be equalized with being sick. These people are not in an hospital, they are in their home. And that is what I think people sometimes forget. They forget that there is more to elderly homes than just operating like hospitals. I believe that social activities, communication, education and free time activities should also belong to elderly homes. Am I right?
